Apr 29, 2008 (newstodate): Weak first quarter earnings and a stringent cost savings program force the Scandinavian carrier SAS to abandon plans for intercontinental expansion.
The planned lease of an Airbus A340 aircraft has been called off, taking San Francisco off the list of planned SAS expansions from this year. Plans for opening flights to Delhi in 2008 are reportedly still on the table.
SAS will also ground 11 aircraft, or five percent of its capacity, from this autumn, which wil also effect the airline's current flight schedule
