Apr 15, 2008 (newstodate): Russia's Lipetsk Airport, in the Urals, will be certified to handle international passenger and cargo traffic.
The decision is part of the Russian Federation's program for modernisation of Russia's transport system, 2002-2010.
Prior to the certification, a range of issues and facilities including border crossing, handling, VET, security and safety will be upgraded to meet international standards.
With a 2,300 m runway, Lipetsk Airport has today only limited regional commercial air services.
