Apr 28, 2008 (newstodate): Lufthansa Cargo is now preparing for shifting its freighter hub from Kazakhstan to Russia, following vehement Russian pressure.
Signalling change, Lufthansa Cargo, AiRUnion and Krasnojarsk Airport have signed a MoU about entering a strategic cooperation.
The signatories will together create all operational and commercial prerequisites in order that Lufthansa Cargo can make use of the Siberian airport in Krasnojarsk as a stop-over point for its flights to and from Asia.
Krasnojarsk Airport and the service companies operating there have promised to implement corresponding measures and to make the necessary investments.
The measures to be implemented include, among other things, the up-grading of the instrument landing system to ICAO CAT II, securing trouble-free use of the airport even in adverse weather conditions.
This modernization should be completed and officially certified by the end of 2008.
Within the following five months all further preparatory work should be completed, so that Lufthansa Cargo will then start regular flight operations via Krasnojarsk.
Lufthansa Cargo will already make several flights to the Siberian airport in June 2008 for test purposes.
