Apr 23, 2008 (newstodate): The Lithuanian carrier Aviavilsa hopes to see its AN-26 cargo aircraft succesfully validated by EASA in 18 months.
-The validation process is continuing, but we will probably need some 18 months before it is completed, says Virgilius Pliaukste, Avivilsa technical director.
-As one step, we have been granted license to continue the operation of the freighter for one more year, beginning April 1, 2008.
Aviavilsa operates the AN-26 freighter for SAS Cargo and DHL on a route between Copenhagen and Vilnius.
It was earlier reported that EASA is expected to recommend that the EU commission enforce a ban on the operation of non-certified Soviet-built aircraft by EU carriers, following on several prolongations of the grace period granted since 2003.
