Apr 8, 2008 (newstodate): Aeroflot Cargo is having a hard time in meeting its budgets due to the state ban on imports of aircraft older than 15 years.
The carrier was due to receive the first of a total of six leased MD-11F aircraft by July, 2007, already, and should have a fleet of three MD-11F in operations before the end of that year.
At least two of these aircraft have already been delivered and painted in Aeroflot Cargo's livery, but have still not been registered by the authorities due to the recent ban.
Aeroflot Cargo has now reportedly taken the issue to the Russian courts.
By October, 2008, the carrier is expected to take delivery of the first of six IL-96-400F freighters that may gradually replace the existing fleet of four ageing DC-10-40F freighters on international flights, while the DC-10s will then serve domestic cargo routes before being eventualy phaes out entirely.
