Mar 11, 2008 (newstodate): Ostensibly as a temporary measure, the Russian Ministry of Transportation has prohibited Russian airlines' import of western-made aircraft over 15 years of age.
The ministry refers to an increasing backlog of work to assess and verify the airworthiness of aircraft over 15 years of age, but the decision has reportedly created great difficulties for Russian airlines that have already invested in aircraft acquisitions and are liable to payments according to signed lease contracts.
