Mar 25, 2008 (newstodate): Recently publishing its list of strategic airports, the Russian government surprisingly left Krasnoyarsk Airport as a non-federal, regional airport.
The decision will leave Krasnoyarsk Airport outside the state fund schemes, forcing the airport to rely on local and regional financing of its modernisation and expansion plans only.
The regional government will now seek fresh negotiations over the issue with the state authorities.
Krasnoyarsk has dynamic plans for its development as a new Siberian hub for air traffic between Europe, USA and Asia, and expects to see Lufthansa Cargo moving its freighter operations to the airport from Astana, Kazakhstan, within five months after the completion of the ongoing construction works.
