Mar 28, 2008 (newstodate): Kazakhstan is planning for a sustained hefty increase in its commercial aircraft fleets.
Leading carrier Air Astana, set up in 2001, will have 22 aircraft by the end of this year, adding four more leased aircraft in 2008, and currently negotiating over acquisition of nine more aircraft including Airbus A320 and/or Boeing 787 Dreamliners to be taken on lease arrangements.
Kazkahstan's ministry of transportation is also in talks with Bombardier and Embraer over delivery of up to 20 leased regional aircraft to be delivered by 2012.
In 2007, the Air Astana fleet grew to 18 aircraft following the delivery of two Boeing 767-300ER, two Airbus A320s and two A321 aircraft.
