Mar 19, 2008 (newstodate): The regional government of Abkhazia, in Georgia, is airing plans to re-open the Sukhumi Dranda Airport, closed since the civil war in the 90'ies.
Georgia has expressed strong opposition to the reopening of the airport and threatened to deny Russian airlines airnav services in Georgia, and to bring the issue before ICAO.
Russia may reportedly bring pressure on Georgia to allow the airport's re-opening in return for the country's admission of the re-opening of air services between the two countries after two years of suspension.
