Feb 15, 2008 (newstodate): After a successful start with Icelandair Cargo freighter operations, Swedish airport Norrkoping is keen to see its cargo business developing.
-We did not ourselves do much to land the Icelandair Cargo operations, but we are indeed keen on seeing our freighter business developing after having proved that it does indeed work with us, says Mari Torstensson, Norrkoping Airport manager.
-Icelandair Cargo now operates a weekly Boeing 757-200F flight from Keflavik to Norrkopping, bringing in 20-40 Icelandic horses, and lifting Swedish exports to the USA on its return flight.
-So far this has required no additional investments from our side as we simply load and unload the shipments, while Cargo Center provides the palletisation and other duties concerning the airfreight.
-But we are keen to see this develop and will consider future initiatives to attract more air cargo business, says Ms Torstensson.
Since October Icelandair Cargo has been online at Norrkoping Airport as Stockholm Arlanda Airport proved unable to handle the horse traffic.
