Feb 21, 2008 (newstodate): Russia's air transport system is absurd, admits a senior member of the Russian government.
Speaking at a recent governmental staff meeting, Russia's deputy minister of transportation reportedly made this characterisation of the situation where Moscow has remained the country's prime hub, forcing domestic passengers travelling from one region to another to transfer via Moscow where 67 percent of the domestic traffic is therefore concentrated.
The result is that Russia's production cost per passenger-kilometer is ten percent higher that in USA while the volume of domestic travel is only 10 percent of that of the USA.
