Feb 26, 2008 (newstodate): The Russian airline UTAir has introduced its first Boeing 737-500 in commercial service.
The first commercial flight was performed on February 21, 2008, and the Boeing 737 is to replace the carrier's ageing TU-134 aircraft on mid-range routes. The Russian aircraft consumes twice the volume of fuel than the Boeing aircraft.
UTAir, based at Khanty-Mansiysk, expects to have a total of ten Boeing 737-500 aircraft in the fleet by the end of 2008, increasing to 20 units by the end of 2009.
