Feb 20, 2008 (newstodate): No date has yet been set for the next Russia/EU Aviation Summit, originally slated for November 16-17, 2007, but postponed on Russian initiative.
The Summit should have cemented the opening of a fresh approach to solving the last remaining issues between the two parties, but as the Russian party had still not signed the agreed principles on abolishing Russia's en-route charges on the Siberian and polar air routes, the summit would have proved futile.
The Russian party has still not signed the "agreed principles", but a source in the EU Commission confirms to newstodate that Russia and the Commission remain engaged in close and regular contacts, also on safety issues.
The Summit will take place when the agreement is signed, which could be by autumn this year after a one-year delay.
