Feb 25, 2008 (newstodate): In 2007, Israel grew significantly as a new market for Norway's exports of fresh salmon.
In 2006 Israel imported only 910 tonnes of fresh salmon from Norway, but this had grown to 1,760 tonnes in 2007, an increase by 93 percent, and constituting 2.7 percent of the total Norwegian exports by air transportation.
Also growing in the "second tier" of import markets were the United Arab Emirates that received 814 tonnes of salmon by air in 2007 after increasing 39 percent.
On a smaller scale, Canada imported 208 tonnes of fresh Norwegian salmon in 2006, and this increased by 169 percent to a total of 559 tonnes in 2007.
