Feb 15, 2008 (newstodate): Lufthansa has gained another temporary permit to use Russian airspace for its freighter traffic to Kazakhstan.
The current permit will expire by the end of February, but its has now been prolonged till the end of March, sources say.
Russia is known to have put pressure on Lufthansa to move its cargo hub from Astana, Kazkahstan, to Krasnoyarsk, Siberia, and halted Lufthansa Cargo freighters' overflights in October, 2007, causing a major rift in relations between the parties.
Work on a new masterplan for Krasnoyarsk Airport is now in an advanced stage, and plans are maturing for major expansion and modernisation works in order to present the airport as a viable alternative for international airlines en-route between Europe and USA and Asia.
