Feb 5, 2008 (newstodate): More new routes and operators between Israel and other countries will emerge as El Al has waived its exclusivity on foreign routes in exchange for increased state support to its considerable security costs.
The Israeli government has agreed to rise its coverage of the Israeli airlines' security expenses from currently 50 to 80 percent.
In return, other Israeli carrier including Arkia Israel Airlines and Israir Airlines will now be allowed to compete with El Al on all international routes, as well as opening new routes and destinations abroad.
