Feb 29, 2008 (newstodate): As the first carrier in the Baltic markets, Lithuanian operator Aurela, based in Vilnius, has acquired a Boeing 757-200 aircraft.
The aircraft, formerly operated by Russian carrier VIM-Avia, has been taken on a lease arrangement and if it proves successful, Aurela plans to add one more Boeing 757 aircraft before the end of this year.
The aircraft is now in service for tour operators, and had its first commercial flight from Lithuania to Goa, India, on February 28, 2008.
-We are fully JAR-certified and will perform light maintenance on the aircraft ourselves, while heavy maintenance may rest with LT in Munich as was earlier the case with this aircraft, says Antanas Simutis, Aurela aviation manager.
