Feb 22, 2008 (newstodate): IATA) today begins an important countdown 100 days to 100 percent e-ticketing.
By June 1, 2008, the era of the paper ticket will be gone forever, but the process is still uneven in this final stage.
When the programme began in June 2004, only 18 percent of tickets issued globally were e-tickets. Today e-ticketing penetration is over 93 percent, and less than three million paper tickets are now issued each month, against 28 million when the program was launched.
E-ticketing penetration in Africa is today only 83 percent and has reached 84 percent in Middle East North Africa.
The real concern, however, is Russia and CIS at 54 percent due to a late start while the government changed legislation to allow for e-tickets.
