Dec 23, 2008 (newstodate): The future of Lithuania's national carrier flyLAL is in the balance after the government's refusal to take over the debt-ridden carrier.
The carrier owes 25 mio euro and has been forced to cut flights from Lithuania to Istanbul, Paris and Rome and has reduced the frequqency of flights to Frankfurt and Milan.
flyLAL will also reduce its airline fleet in a last-ditch effort to survive the current crisis.
Latvian carrier airBaltic is taking an increasiong share of the traffic to and from Lithuania, and SAS is also expected to return services between Scandinavia and Lithuania.
