Dec 22, 2008 (newstodate): The Macedonian government has confirmed its intentions to develop Stip Airport into a cargo-dedicated airport.
Winner of the Macedonian airport concesssions tender ion 2008, Turkish company TAV will undertake construction of the new airport, including runway, a passenger terminal, two cargo handling facilities for imports and exports, and two aircraft hangars.
Supported by EBRD, Stip Airport will be designed to handle the agricultural exports from Macedonia's producers in the region.
The Macedonian government is also mulling plans for building a new airport at Ovcje Polje, but so far no details on this project are available.
