Dec 2, 2008 (newstodate): Russian carrier UTAir is gradually positioning itself for closer cooperation with Lufthansa and admission into the Star Alliance.
Lufthansa earlier signed a MoU with AiRUnion aiming at a comprehensive strategic cooperation, but the recent bankruptcy of the Russian alliance forces Lufthansa to re-think its Russian strategy.
As a first step, Lufthansa has inked an interline agreement with UTAir, facilitating onward travels on the two airlines by passengers from both sides.
Based at Khanty Mansiysk, Russia, UTAir provides flights from Moscow Domodedovbo and Vnukovo airports to 60 destinations in Russia.
