Dec 9, 2008 (newstodate): Pristina International Airport, in Kosovo, is now fully on its own after a long period of international management since the end of the regional civil wars.
On December 1, 2008, the airport received its operational licence from the Civil Aviation Authority of Kosovo after being under, first, NATO supervision and currently under supervision by Iceland's Civil Aviation Administration.
The Kosovo government is now planning for the privatisation of the airport in order to attract foreign investments into the airport, either through direct sale or through the granting of concessions to run and manage the airport.
Pristina International Airport has a 2,500 m runway and served a total of 1.1 mio passenger in 2007, an increase by 12 percent
