Dec 12, 2008 (newstodate): The Czech government has reportedly taken the issue of privatisation of Prague Ruzyne Airport off the agenda for better days to come.
Plans were to finalise the tender with a winner to be announced by Q1, 2009, but the current world financial crisis has forced the government to suspend the process.
The airport privatisation was on the agenda already in 2005, but withdrawn again for political reasons.
In June, 2008, the government decided to launch the process with a consulting company, and among the significant potential bidders declaring their interest were Hochtief, Fraport, Macquarie, and BAA.
During the current financial and economic uncertainty, however, the airport would scarcely fetch the price budgetted.
