Dec 9, 2008 (newstodate): As many other Russian airlines, privately-owned Kuban Airlines is facing problems.
The carrier, based at Krasnodar, is now in a difficult financial situation, and its owner, Basic Elements, is seeking a reconstruction of the airline.
The preferred option is to merge Kuban Airlines with another carrier, and talks are underway with "several" potential partners.
Formerly a division of Aeroflot, Kuban Airlines was privatised in 1992 and operates a fleet comprising five YAK-42, three YAK-42D aircraft and two upgraded TU-154M aircraft on domestic routes and international routes to Aleppo, Frankfurt, Istanbul, Saloniki, Sharjah, Tashkent, Tel Aviv and Yerevan.
