Nov 3, 2008 (newstodate): After decades with SAS Cargo since its start of operations at Copenhagen Airport, Singapore Airlines Cargo has signed a contract with WFS for cargo terminal handling in the Nordic region.
The new contract takes effect from February 1, 2009, and comprises all Scandinavian stations as well as Finland.
Singapore Airlines Cargo's Nordic hub is Copenhagen Airport, and WFS will also be responsible for terminal handling in all other Nordic airports, while trucking of the carrier's shipments between the WFS cargo terminal in Copenhagen and all points in the Nordic region remains in the hands of the carrier, provided by HCS.
Also taking effect from February 1, 2009, is a new ground handling contract with WFS at Copenhagen Airport, replacing the current contract with SAS Airline's ground handling arm, SGS.
Singapore Airlines Cargo operates five weekly freighter flights between Copenhagen and Singapore, as well as selling the belly capacity on Singapore Airlines' passenger aircraft on the route.
Counting flown and trucked import and export cargo as well as shipments exported via other European hubs, Singapore Airlines Cargo total volumes to and from the Scandinavian markets stand around 40,000 tonnes per year.
