Nov 28, 2008 (newstodate): SAS is reportedly pressing hard to obtain a full take-over of Estonia Air.
SAS currently owns 49 percent of the shares in the Estonian carrier but wants to acquire the Estonian state's share of 34 percent as well as a precondition for taking a firm hand on the future of the airline that is in the red and fighting for means to maintain its aircraft fleet and develop route network.
The Estonian state is reportedly unwilling to let go of its control over the airline, as was also the case with the Latvian state that similarly refused to let SAS take a further stake in its carrier, airBaltic.
If unsuccessful with its move towards Estonian Air, SAS is expected to launch its own Baltic airline to feed regional traffic into its own traffic system with hybs at Copenhagen, Denmark, and Stockholm, Sweden.
