Nov 5, 2008 (newstodate): Singapore Airlines Cargo's decision to shift cargo handling provider in the Nordic region to WFS from February 1, 2009, leaves SAS Cargo's Spirit with ample surplus capacity in the East Terminal at Copenhagen Airport.
Besides SIA Cargo, other airline customers in the terminal are now Lufthansa Cargo, China Cargo Airlines, FedEX, and SAS Air Mail.
But from next spring, FedEx will also leave SAS Cargo Spirit, moving to self-handling at a new cargo terminal presently being constructed at the airport.
Since the start of 2008, China Cargo Airlines, a subsidiary of China Eastern Airlines, has included a stop at Copenhagen on the westbound leg of its route between Shanghai and Paris, now offering four weekly flights with MD-11F aircraft.
From this autumn, China Eastern will also operate twice-weekly at Copenhagen Airport on the route Shanghai-Frankfurt-Copenhagen and v.v., using Airbus A330-200 aircraft.
After next spring, Lufthansa Cargo, China Cargo Airlines and China Eastern will thus be the only airline customers left at the SAS Cargo Spirit East Terminal, and Lufthansa Cargo is currently in a tender process for handling of its cargo in Scandinavia.
