Nov 6, 2008 (newstodate): During the first eight months of 2008, cargo traffic on Russia-domiciled carriers was up 22.2 percent, measured in tonne-kilometres.
The increase was driven by a 29.7 percent growth in international cargo traffic, while domestic cargo traffic remained stagnant, down 0.2 percent.
In the international cargo, the increase was primarily due to an increase by 30 percent in traffic between Russia and non-CIS markets, while cargo traffic between Russia and other CIS markets increased by 11.8 percent.
International cargo comprised 75 percent of the country's total cargo traffic, and 98.5 percent of this was cargo traffic between Russia and non-CIS markets, all data provided by Russia's Transport Clearing House.
