Nov 10, 2008 (newstodate): Russia will grant a six-month grace period for airlines' payment of customs on aircraft imported from the West.
The payment of import duties on aircraft spare parts and components will also be granted a six-month grace period according to a new decree by the Russian prime minister.
The decress is driven by the current financial and economic distress in Russia's civil aviation that has caused airlines to reduce operations, or forced them to ground their aircraft entirely for lack of financial means.
The government has also called for Russia's bank to support the financing of airlines based on a study of their commercial situation and viability.
