Nov 5, 2008 (newstodate): Amidst the general world economy crisis and its serious effects on Iceland, Icelandair Cargo confirms business is rather slow - but maintains a healthy background.
-Import volumes are indeed at a low level, but exports are doing fairly well, to some degree compensating for the shortfall in imports, says Gunnar Mar Sigurfinnsson, Icelandair Cargo managing director.
-Loads in Icelandair Cargo's Europe-USA transit segment are also developing more or less according to plan, so generally speaking we are doing if not well, then at least as well as one could hope for under the given circumstances that are hitting any company in the business around the world.
-We have adapted to the changes in the business environment by restructuring our organisation, reducing staff by about one-third and taking other measures to prepare for even a worst-case scenario.
-We have seen market convulsions before, but we are rather confident of our future and convinced that we will indeed survive, says Mr Sigurfinsson.
