Nov 28, 2008 (newstodate): In line with most other providers, Finnair Cargo is sliding towards tougher times.
-We expect that next year our cargo volumes may drop 10 percent on a global level, and the imbalance between east and west will remain. Due to the future outlook we recently started a consultation process with our staff in order to prepare for the global downturn, says Erkka Suvikumpu, Finnair Cargo VP Marketing & Business Development.
-This might also postpone the new cargo terminal project but we still prepare and finalise the plans in order to be ready to start the building process, when the time is right.
-The Indian market has been good for us on both directions but the recent unfortunate events in Mumbai along with the global economic situation might affect the near future also in that market but it is still too early to say, says Mr Suvikumpu.
In 2007 Finnair Cargo handled a total of 98,684 tonnes of cargo, up 5.2 percent, y-o-y, driven by a 24.5 percent growth in volumes on its Asian traffic, to 59,165 tonnes, corresponding to 60 percent of the total volumes carried.
