Nov 21, 2008 (newstodate): China has now designated carriers to operate cargo flights across the Taiwan Strait.
The new traffic is a direct result of the recent successful meetings between China and Taiwan to ease the tension over the Taiwan Strait and increase direct flights between the two countries.
The Chinese party has designated China Eastern Airlines' subsidiary China Cargo Airlines and China Southern Airlines to operate 10 monthly freighter flights from Shanghai and Guangzhou, respectively, while Air China Cargo has been granted rights to operate five monthly flights from both Shanghai and Guangzhou.
