Oct 15, 2008 (newstodate): Turkish Airlines has annnounced a board decision to power-shop for new aircraft.
The decision includes the acquisition of 25 wide-body long-haul aircraft and 50 narrow-body medium-haul aircraft.
THY will also purchase options for 10 wide-body and 20 narrow-body in the same transaction.
THY will now open a tender procedure requesting proposal from Airbus for Airbus A330 and A350XWB wide-body aircraft and Airbus A319/A320/A321 narrow-body aircraft, and from Boeing Company for Boeing 777/787 wide-body aircraft, and Boeing 737-700/-800/-900 narrow-body aircraft.
Beside the issue of price, THY's critical decision factor on evaluating the proposals given by the manufacturers will be their ability to start deliveries from the second half of 2010.
