Oct 16, 2008 (newstodate): Tajikistan has taken steps to split its aviation conglomerate TajikAir into independent functional entities.
As a vestige from its Soviet past, TajikAir now comprises a wide range of civil aviation responsibilities and activities including airports, airline, and air navigation authority.
The govenment has now decided to dismember the current TajikAir into six state-owned entities including Tajik Air Navigation, Dushanbe Airport, Khujand Airport, Kulob Airport, Qurghon Teppa Airport, and the airline TajikAir.
The process, expected to be completed before the end of 2008, will turn these units into fully state-owned joint stock enterprises, and there are no plans for a later privatisation.
TajikAir currently operates four Tu-154M, seven Yak-40, three An-28, three An-24, two An-26, and six helicopters.
Also in the fleet are two leased Boeing 737-200 and two leased Boeing 757-200.
