Oct 7, 2008 (newstodate): Sweden's Luleaa Kallax Airport is keen to see its cargo business developing.
Kallax Cargo Airport, set up by public fundings, was inaugurated November 16, 1999, aiming at attracting attention to Kallax as a re-fuelling stop on routes between Northern Asia and Europe, USA, but the concept never materialised.
The company is now owned by five transport and logistics partners in Sweden, Norway, and Finland: Meyership AS, Norway, Holm Shipping AS, Norway, Wiiks Transport AS, Norway, Kalles Bud och Transport AB, Sweden, and Kalottspedition OY, Finland, alongside the initial Swedish owners NCC, Norrporten och Luleaa County.
-Today Kallax Airport has only limited ad-hoc charter freighter traffic, but the infrastructure including terminals, vehicles and equipments is in place and capable of handling any future cargo traffic, says Ola Nordstrom, Kallax Cargo director marketing.
A project is reportedly underway to set up scheduled freighter traffic for exports from the northern regions of Norway, Sweden, and Finland.
