Oct 1, 2008 (newstodate): Russia's United Aircraft Corporation has started negotiations with potential Indian customers for the SuperJet 100 aircraft.
Designed by Russia's Sukhoi in cooperation with Boeing, Snecma, Thales, Messier Dowty, Liebherr Aerospace and Honeywell, the cost-efficient SuperJet is expected to be produced in at least 700 units expected be to sold in the global market, but up to 2025 the market may demand more than 1,000 aircraft.
Market estimates are that up to 35 percent of the SuperJets will be sold in North America, 25 percent in Europe, 10 percent in Latin America, and seven percent in Russia and China.
In a freighter version, the SuperJet-100 will have a capacity to lift up to 15 tonnes on short to medium ranges.
Much delayed, the SuperJet virgin flight was performed on May 19, 2008, and the first delivery date has also been postponed from originally November, 2008, to "some time" in 2009, causing distress for Aeroflot and other launch customers.
