Oct 13, 2008 (newstodate): Designated as one of Russia's 52 airports of strategic importance, Murmansk Airport has found a new owner.
The aviation-arm of the Russian oil company Gazprom, Gazpromneft-Aero has acquired 32 percent of the stake in the airport that is located on the Kola Peninsula, close to the country's borders with Norway and Finland.
During the first seven months of this year, the airport, equipped with a 2,500 m runway, generated 245,000 passengers, an increase by 26.7 percent, and 860 tonnes of cargo, up 3.1 percent.
