Oct 23, 2008 (newstodate): On October 17, 2008, Latvia's Riga Airport offically completed its runway extension project.
The runway has been extended by 650m to 3,200m, making it the longest runway in the Baltic region.
The new extended runaway will accomodate traffic by long-haul aircraft including Airbus A340, and Boeing 747, 757, 767 and 777 aircraft.
The runway extension project also includes delivery and installation of new runway lighting systems by HoneyWell Airport Systems GmbH.
A significant part of the 23.5 mio euro project costs was financed by the EU Cohesion Fund.
