Oct 8, 2008 (newstodate): Backed by EBRD loans, Moldova's Chisinau International Airport is to be further upgraded in a Phase 2.
A tender for consulting services will be opened before the end of this year, covering preparation of detailed technical design for rehabilitation works, implementation Assistance and supervision of works, and design of a an airport master plan.
Tendering for civil works and goods contracts will start upon completion of the detailed technical design and is planned for the third quarter of 2009.
The works to be performed include rehabilitation of the 3,590 m runway and a new runway lighting system, taxiways and aprons also including lighting, and an upgrade of the airport terminal building.
In 2007, Chisinau International Airport handled a total of 688,800 passengers and 1,800 tonnes of cargo and mail.
