Oct 21, 2008 (newstodate): Lufthansa Cargo excpects its Norwegian cargo volumes in 2008 to roughly equal its performance in 2007.
-We are seeing decreasing volumes of perishables in 2008 within Norwegian fresh fish exports to Asia, probably due to some variations in the output of the fish farming industry, says Kjell Westby, Lufthansa Cargo manager Norway.
-Pulling in the other direction, however, is a strong increase in general cargo exports from Norway in 2008, primarily in industries relating to oil-drilling, off-shore and shipping enterprises.
-To put it mildly, all these industries are experiencing a virtual boom, and this has put a strong pressure on uplift of general cargo exports, but also other Norwegian industries like IT and electronics have performed excellently in 2008 as to Lufthansa Cargo sales in Norway.
-So far we have not felt any impact from the current world financial crisis on our export air cargo sales in Norway, and we expect a continued high level of activity at least till January or February, 2009. After that it is of course entirely possible that the situation may look differently, says Mr Westby.
