Oct 21, 2008 (newstodate): SAS Cargo has received its first batch of five temperature-controlled containers, called Temptainers.
After a lengthy process, the Temptainer has now been certified by EASA and has entered service with SAS Cargo on routes from Copenhagen and Stockholm to New York, Chicago, Seattle and Tokyo.
Thanks to its continuous cooling concept developed in cooperation with Aircontainer AB, the container works with a lightweight aircraft grade battery solution produced by the Swedish provider Nilar.
The concept reduces container weight by 17 percent, corresponding to 200 kg, while increasing run-time by 200 percent.
