Oct 7, 2008 (newstodate): Fledgling Swedish airlne TOR AIR is optimistic of its future in Swedish aviation despite the current economic downturn.
-Our business plan contains two elements: ACMI and wet-lease, and charter operations, which gives us two market venues, says Torbjorn Winsell, TOR AIR CEO.
-With the ACMI/wet-lease concept we will target the airline industry as capacity providers which is admittedly particularly important during periods marked by economic boom, which is currently not the case and probably will not be for the next one or two years.
-The charter operations concept will, on the other hand, be especially appealing to tour operators during a slump period as airlines will be unable to engage in long-term operational contracts, retreating rather to day-to-day and short-term planning modes. Tour operators make contracts for operations over half-year or full-year periods, which airlines like SAS are unable to respond to .
-TOR AIR expects to receive its AOC by mid-November when we will also have our first Boeing 737-400 aircraft. More aircraft will be added along the road in response to market needs
-We have contracts on the table already, and are seeking more commitments in the market. Cargo operations may also become an option but the focus is initially on passenger transportation, says Torbjorn Winsell.
