Oct 17, 2008 (newstodate): Construction of a new airport planned at Taganrog Yuzhny, near Rostov-on-Don, Russia, will start in 2011, and be completed by 2014.
Plans include construction of two 4,000m runways to accomodate all types of aircraft, and parking stands for at least 50 aircraft.
The project is included in the strategic plan Development of the transport system of Russia 2010-2015, and among the investors is the aircraft manufacturing company Beriev, based at Taganrog.
Rostovs-on-Don's current airport has a cargo capacity at 420 tonnes per day, but the projected airport will be able to handle up to 70,000 tonnes of cargo per year, as well as eight million passengers
