Oct 20, 2008 (newstodate): The planned start of a Cathay Pacific Cargo freighter service at Luleaa Kallax Airport is welcomed by Lufthansa Cargo Norway.
-We were in talks with Kallax Cargo over a year ago, but the dialogue dried up as we could not obtain the commitments necessary for us to engage in the project, says Kjell Westby, Lufthansa Cargo manager Norway.
-We do however welcome the news of Cathay Pacific as we feel this will be an important addition to the uplift services available to Norwegian exporters of fresh salmon from the region north of Trondheim, not conveniently served from Olso.
-Lufthansa Cargo is better positioned to serve the Norwegian salmon production sites at Bergen, Stavanger and other more southerly locations, and we are quite satisfied with our position in this market.
-Salmon exporets from this region have not quite lived up to last year's levels for a variety of reasons, so the market development here has been a little weaker than 2007. Also the run-up to the traditional Christmas peak season seems to come somewhat later this year, but there have always been annual fluctuations in the over-all pattern, says Mr Westby.
