Oct 10, 2008 (newstodate): Breaking a long-sustained record of strong volumes growth, Finnair Cargo saw its total loads down by 7.7 percent, y-o-y, in September 2008.
The carrier is, however, confident of the future despite the current world financial crisis and the slowing-down of world economics.
-We have not seen any significant down-turn in demand yet, although the exceptional growth rate has been settling down during the past few months, says Timo Riiiimaki, Finnair Cargo Vice President Global Sales.
-Firstly, I would like to highlight that September 2007 was exceptionally strong. Therefore, the comparative figures from last September are very tought to be beaten.
-Secondly, Olympic Games and thereafter paraolympics in Beijing have impacted on our Chinese business. Now as all the RFS restrictions have been lifted, the Northern Chinese markets seem to be improving again, says Mr Riihimaki.
