Oct 16, 2008 (newstodate): The launch of the new freighter service to Asia from Swedish Luleaa Kallax Airport now hinges on resumption of freighter deliveries from Boeing after the current strike.
-Cathay Pacific Cargo will be the airline to operate the new route, and the start-up date depends on delivery of a new Boeing 747-400F freighter at Seattle, says Jan Erik Svendsen, DHL Danzas QualityCargo.
-Plans are to route the freighter from Frankfurt to Hong Kong via Kallax Airport, starting out with a weekly flight later to be increased by a second frequency as warranted by the market.
-From Hong Kong, shipments will be transferred to other CX flights to destinations in China, Taiwan, Japan and other Asian markets.
-DHL Danzas QualityCargo is the sole forwarder in the project group, and this will facilitate coordinated efforts to optimise the marketing of the new freighter service among exporters in the northern parts of Norway, Sweden and Finland.
-Shipments from Norway will primarily be exports of fresh salmon that must today be trucked from production sites in northern Norway to Oslo, requiring more than 12 hours on the road. But there are many exporters of commodities in all three northern regions, and we expect much of this new venture, says Mr Svendsen.
Since September 17, 2006, Cathay Pacific Cargo operates a twice-weekly freighter service from Stockholm Arlanda to Hong Kong via Dubai.
