Oct 30, 2008 (newstodate): West Atlantic is the name a new company, poised to become Europes largest all-cargo regional carrier.
The new carrier is the result of the merger between Sweden's West Air Europe and the UK carrier Atlantic Airlines, announced yesterday.
The owners of both privately-owned companies will exchange shareholdings to create the new entity, which will have its administrative headquarters in Gothenburg, Sweden.
West Atlantic will employ some 500 people, and have a fleet of 41 BAE Systems ATP freighters, one ATR-72, six Lockheed Electra and two Bombardier CRJ200PF.
Atlantic Airlines, West Air Sweden and West Air Luxembourg of the West Air Europe holding company will continue to trade separately as at present, although under the merged ownership certain key services such as maintenance will be organised centrally.
