Oct 17, 2008 (newstodate): A sustained growth in transit cargo volumes is driving Aeroflot Cargo's volumetric performance in 2008.
During January-September, Aeroflot Cargo generated a total of 49,683 tonnes of transit cargo, an increase by 31 percent, y-o-y.
This has driven the carrier's transit cargo from constituting 41 percent of total volume in 2007, to 44 percent in 2008.
Second in importance comes import cargo, increasing by eight percent to 43,033 tonnes in the first nine months of 2008.
Import cargo's proportion has, however, dropped from 44 to 41 percent for the first nine months of this year.
Domestic cargo, 14,089 tonnes in January-September 2009, has kept stable at 13 percent of total volumes.
Russian air cargo exports by Aeroflot Cargo still plays a rather insignificant role.
In the first nine months of this year Aeroflot Cargo carried 4,037 tonnes of export cargo - four percent of totals, which was, however, a doubling of the percentage in the same period in 2007.
