Jan 28, 2008 (newstodate): The US company Freight Feeder Aircraft Corporation is designing a new Freight Feeder aircraft, designated FF5000, to carve a niche in the air cargo market.
The aircraft will be a container-capable regional turboprop-aircraft, specifically designed to economically transport containerised and palletised shipments to and from regional manufacturing and freight distribution facilities located in smaller communities to and from the major international hub airports.
The global market potentials for this type of aircraft are estimated to be around 5,000, and the company expects to capture a 15 percent market share, or approximately 750 aircraft at a production rate of 60 aircraft per year over the next 15 years.
A prototype is currently under construction and to be completed by year-end 2008.
This will be followed by the FAA Part 25 Certification process which, when completed, will allow the company to produce the FF5000 aircraft for commercial sales with delivery to customers worldwide by fourth quarter 2010.
