Jan 2, 2008 (newstodate): Iran's Imam Khomeini International Airport needs expansion to accomodate the future traffic volumes.
In August 2007, Lufthansa Consulting signed a contract to support the Iranian Consulting Engineering company Sahne Boostan Co., which has been commissioned by IKIAs management.
Over the next 36 months, LCG will control and approve the Master Plan, the cargo strategy and the plans to make IKIA an Economic Free Zone.
Sahne Boostan Co. will establish a preliminary as well as the detailed design for the expansion of IKIA, including a second runway, a second passenger terminal and secondary buildings.
Lufthansa Consulting will review and approve these designs and perform regular, on-site visits to oversee the construction processes.
The expansion is driven by the need to move all international traffic to Imam Khomeini International Airport from the city's other airport, Mehrabad Airport.
